As campaigns and lobbying for principal offices for the 9th session of National Assembly NASS heat up ahead of inauguration, a civil society group, Legislative Writers Forum, LWF has advocated for a principal seat to be given to Sen Ibrahim Gobir representing Sokoto East senatorial zone in the upper chamber of NASS describing him as a ranking legislator with uncommon experience in service delivery.

In a press statement made available to newsmen in Abuja on Wednesday and jointly signed by the group’s National Coordinator and Secretary General, Mr Johnson Eze and Mallam Sani Mohammed respectively, the body posited that leadership is by example and that as the chairman of committee on senate services, Sen Gobir is a luminous example in the management of senate affairs and must be considered in any position zoned to senators of North Eastern extraction for this new session to make meaningful achievement expected of it.

The statement further called on distinguished senator Gobir to hid to voice of reason and express interest in any of the Principal offices as he is eminently qualified insisting that his profile is identical to the quality of leader Nigeria needs at this time.

‘’If principal offices of NASS are actually meant for those legislators with leadership skills, Senator Gobir is one with the requisite capacity and experienced. It is therefore incumbent on the members of the red chamber and the ruling All Progressive Congress APC to rally round key stakeholders to ensure that a man with fewer words and more action as Sen Gobir is given preference in appointing principal positions’’. The statement added

Further, it pointed that “It is on record that Sen Gobir is an industrious and prolific parliamentarian, who has many life-impacting bills and motions to his credit in the red chamber. As Nigeria looks forward to a Senate that will adequately complement President Mohammadu Buhari in improving the lots of this country, competent hands like Sen Gobir must not be ignored in the scheme of things’’.

The statement concluded by calling on all returning and newly elected senators to be forward looking and place national interest above selfish or parochial considerations, as such focus on legislators with capacity while making their choice in selecting or electing senate leadership. With such mind set, the 9th session of the NASS will without doubt deliver legislative service with excellence to the Nigerian people.
