The implementation and enforcement of Special Trade License by the Anambra State’s Ministry of Transport has been described as a measure that would ensure safety and security for Motor Vehicle spare parts dealers in the State

The measure is also expected to further protect the dealers and consumers of auto spare parts from patronizing fake unreliable spare parts thereby ensuring that all spare parts in circulation across the State meets international standard.

This latest development was disclosed by Prince Fidelis Nnadi, a road safety advocate during an interactive session with newsmen in Awka.

Prince Nnadi further informed that “the Special Trade License regulation as being implemented and enforced in Anambra State and other States in Nigeria will protect the interest of Motor Vehicle dealers and buyers against criminal activities in the buying and selling  of Motor Vehicles as all the Dealers of Motor Vehicles, Auto Spare Parts and all those in any Motor Vehicle Related activities are to be licensed and captured in the State government’s data system which will serve as a source of reference in case of fire disaster, business ownership disputes and such incidents that may require true identification of ownership of business premises and  goods under Special Trade License Regulation. It will further provide relevant information that is required on those affected in any disaster that may require compensation by government and any interest parties.

“It is advisable that those engaged in any Motor Vehicle Related activities should obtain the Special Trade License which will, in overall assessment serve the interest of all concern and the society,” Nnadi said.

Citing various incidences of fire disasters that had occurred in the past where some markets were engulfed with fire and millions of Naira was lost without available data to identify the true identity of those affected by such fire disaster  thereby making it difficult for government and other interested parties to make compensation for their losses.

Prince Nnadi further clarified that Mechanics are among agents of Road Traffic Safety as they are instrumental towards ensuring that vehicles brought to them for repairs are fixed in professional manner for such vehicles to be road worthy and safe for vehicle occupants.

Nnadi applauds the Government Anambra State for enacting the Special Trade License Regulation which is the legal backing for its enforcement.
