The Accident Prevention and Rescue Initiative (APRI) has called for outright suspension of Peace Mass Transit Company (PMT) following their poor safety records in recent times.
According to a statement by APRI Executive Director Prince Fidelis Nnadi made available to newsmen in Abuja, the group alleged that there is no reason Peace Mass Transit should still be plying our roads.
“I Can’t think of any transport company in the history of this country that has recorded the number of horrific accidents recorded by the Peace Mass Transit Company from state to state, corner to corner with huge losses to lives accompanying. Or the sheer shenanigans of their drivers.
“Last time one of their drivers killed several students of the Kogi State University compelling the state House of Assembly to ban them from their roads. Now, they are colluding with rogue FRSC officials to bury accident victims on their own without notifying their families. Whoever does that?
“What then is the job of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) if it can’t call rogue transport companies to order and guarantee the safety of hapless road travelers? I escaped death in the hands of one of their rogue drivers about eight years ago at Ibadan. Many didn’t, sadly. How long do we continue stomaching such a public nuisance? How long? PMT is beyond redemption. Shut them down, he concluded.
