As activities for the governorship elections in Bayelsa and Kogi states get underway, the Bayelsa state Chapter of the All progressive Congress, APC has been counselled to elect the immediate paste minister of state for Agriculture and Rural Development, Senator Heineken Lokpobiri as its flag bearer saying he possesses the capacity not just to win the main election but as well holds the uncommon competence to turn around the fortunes of the riverine state.
The counselling is contained in a statement made available to newsmen in Abuja Yesterday by Youth Entrepreneurs in the Agric Sector YEAS, signed by the duo of the body’s national executives, Comrade Smart Odiete and James Amadi, National Chairman and Secretary of the group respectively.
‘’Sen Lokpobiri stands out as one of the APC stalwarts that add great value to the party fold. He is an asset and not liability. Having served the government of the party at the exalted level as minister with great success, it is just expedient that he be given the opportunity to serve the state as governor where his enormous experience in the agric and rural development sector can be applied to take the state to the next level’’ the statement read.
‘’Agriculture ranks topmost among the sectors the present administration recorded greatest impact. Today made in Nigeria rice and other locally produced food items are now the order of the day courtesy of Chief Audu Ogbeh and Sen Heniken Lokpobiri, the Minister and Minister of state respectively. If good governance is the ultimate ambition of democracy and good governance comes from skill and experience hands. As opportunity therefore beckons for Bayelsa state to elect who governs them for another term, the APC family should not miss to pick Sen Lokpobiri its flag bearer’’ the statement added.
The statement commended the former minister for his high sense of patriotism in declaring interest to contest the governorship election adding that as the nation’s democracy advances, it is only normal that personalities of his pedigree be given the opportunity to govern a state. It advised those considering supporting other candidates to have a rethink for the interest of the state.
The statement concluded by urging Sen Lokpobiri not to be deterred in continuing on that right part of service to mankind as posterity will surely vindicate him.
