A civil society group, Middle Belt Democracy Coalition, (MBDC) has appealed to the electorate to support Hon Gyang Istifanus Dung as he vies for senatorial seat in 2019 election, calling on all indigene of the constituency to work assiduously to ensure that he emerges victorious. Hon Gyang is presently representing Barkinladi/Riyon Constituency of Plateau state in the House of Representatives
In a press statement released in Jos,the plateau state capital yesterday by the chairperson of the group, Engr. Josiah Pam, the body remarked that the decision to rally support for Hon Gyang’s election bid to the senate followed his outstanding performance in the House of Representatives, adding he has confounded doubters by his brilliant attainments. In other words, ‘he has exceeded people’s expectation’, he says.
‘’Our group went round his constituency and the impression we gathered from the people indicates they are pretty happy with him. They say he is connected to them in a way quite rare in the contemporary political representation. Rather than seems detached, aloof,from them as is the habit of some, he is always with them executing one constituency project or another like provision of bore holes, rural electrification and empowerment youth of his constituency.’’
Some youths, Engr. Pam said, have benefited from his youth empowerment programme which includes scholarship to his constituency’s indigent set, distribution of motor bikes etc., He added: it is the same youth that are now campaigning for him, believing him to replicate the same achievements. Hon Gyang is an active member of the House who makes meaningful contribution to issues and debates of the House, the group states is a generously liberal and seldom self-centred politician worth their continuous support.
‘We will ensure that he wins the next assembly election’’, Engr. Pam pledged. ‘’As I speak to you now, my group is going from one section of his constituency to another. The intention is to canvass for him, making sure like 2015 he wins to continue his good work.
Our independent finding shows that Hon Gyang might encounter no formidable opposition from any quarters and might coast home victory in 2019’s senate election, given his unique pedigree. We are exclusively informed that his constituency has already resolved to re-elect him.
Recall that as he presently serves in the house, his commitment to Committee duties and oversight functions set him apart in the class of prolific legislators whose. “The ways and manner he discharges his responsibilities in the house is very satisfactory” the group added.
Nigerians, Engr. Pam says, have some special respect for him for his effort at delivering the dividends of democracy to his constituency in addition to being one of the most reliable and dynamic House of Representatives member Nigeria has ever had in her 58 years of nationhood.
