Abdullahi Gana Muhammadu, CG, NSCDC
A civil society group, Centre for Media Rights and Advocacy (CMRA) has applauded the salient transformation of infrastructural development and the building of new edifices all over the country by the proactive management of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), under the leadership of Commandant-General, Abdullahi Gana Muhammadu. This, no doubt, is to cater for the security needs, good office environment of its personnel as well as increase the sense of belonging of a well-motivated workforce. This gesture has now made it possible for the NSCDC to own their own property instead of rented apartments taking into consideration the security implications of such rented apartments.
This applause is contained in a press release signed by the civil society’s Secretary, Comrade Tomisin Ajorin and Project Director, Comrade Balarabe Ishayah. The statement commended the proactive and transparent management of NSCDC for commissioning 13 new command buildings across the country, a feat which the civil society described as “unheard of since the annals of history of the NSCDC.” The duo also lauded the initiative of the Commandant-General for his foresight and vision of a better infrastructure where the issue of workforce and better environment for efficient services is paramount for effective welfare and productivity of its personnel.
The society’s executives emphasized that this is the first time such a milestone was achieved within the shortest possible time even with the paucity of funds and, as such, enjoined well-meaning Nigerians and security stakeholders to support the gigantic strides presently taking place at the NSCDC.
CMRA is using this medium to call on all other agencies and para-military organizations to borrow a leaf of this initiative of the Commandant-General by making sure that the wellbeing, comfort and working environment is conducive for personnel, to enable them put in their best when called upon to serve the nation. Alluding that it has become a plethora of achievements and milestones since the present CG took over the mantle of leadership, as the morale of personnel is at its peak unlike before. This has spurred the officers and men of the Civil Defence to burst and crack armed bandits, cattle rustlers and vandals across the country on daily basis. The redoubling of efforts by the officers and men has drastically reduced the mayhem of vandalism of critical national assets across the country.
In a related development, the civil society also acknowledged the recent massive endorsement of the NSCDC by the Borno State farmers. It said the farmers deeply appreciated the Agro-Rangers Initiative of the NSCDC’s Commandant-General which they said has enabled them to go to their farms daily as the rangers are always at their farms protecting them, which was not the case in the past. This is indeed a pat on the shoulders of the NSCDC, and has also drawn wide commendations from far and near especially on the daily sacrifices put up by the officers and men to make sure the Agro-Rangers Initiative, as envisioned by the current CG across the country, is receiving the needed attention and domiciled for the protection of both local and foreign agro-allied investors. This, in turn, boosts food security as most farmers can now go to their farms with the knowledge that the Agro-Rangers officers are there to protect them from attacks by hoodlums.
This, the civil society noted, is indeed a milestone as the farmers have cause to thank the Civil Defence that for one year now the Service has provided security to them in their farmlands and they can now go to their respective farms without watching their shoulders.
CMRA therefore calls on stakeholders and well-meaning Nigerians to join hands with the NSCDC to collaborate and partner on a long-term strategic initiative that will lead to the over-all betterment and service delivery of the NSCDC aimed at the protection of critical national assets, capacity and management development which will include overseas training for its officers and men for the over-all security development of the country.
