Late Mrs. Salome Abu, Peoples Democratic Party, PDP women leader

Senate has condemned, in strong terms, the killing of Mrs. Salome Abu, Peoples Democratic Party, PDP women leader in November 16 Kogi state gubernatorial election who was set on ablaze by suspected political thugs in her home and allowed to die in the most gruesome manner.
It therefore urged the Inspector General of Police to ensure that the perpetrators are arrested and prosecuted just as it condemned violence against female candidates in the just concluded Kogi state elections.
The Senate’s decision was sequel to a motion sponsored by Senator Betty Apiafi, Rivers west, which noted that the UN General Assembly designated November 25 as “international day for the elimination of violence against women”.
Senator Apiafi used the recent attack and burning to death of Mrs Salome Abu, the PDP women leader in the Kogi election and the death of late Ochanya Elizabeth Ogbanje, a 13 year old junior secondary school student of Federal Government Girls College, Gboko who died as a result of complications from various forms of sexual violence, rape and abuse by her uncle as case in point.
