DG of NYSC, Brig. Gen. Sule Zakari Kazaure
Following the massive deployment of resourceful National Youth Service Corps, NYSC members as ad-hoc staff in the recently concluded Presidential and National Assembly elections, a civil society organization, Media Practitioners for Development, MPD, has commended the Director General of NYSC, Brig. Gen. Sule Zakari Kazaure for effectively mobilizing the corps members for such a national assignment.
In a statement released by MPD to newsmen in Abuja yesterday the organization applauded Gen. Kazaure for assisting to make the elections a huge success, indicating how patriotic and responsive he is. The group however argued that though NYSC members are Nigerian nationals, duty bound to answer any national call, it is still the sole prerogative of the DG to release them for the assignment.
‘’We are congratulating the DG for permitting their release for the crucial national assignments. Their deployment was vital to successful conduct of the elections,’’ the group public relation officer, Mark Willy, explains, promising in due course ‘’NYSC would be conferred with our prestigious award of excellent in service delivery.’’
The group noted with satisfaction the decorum exhibited by corps members during the conduct of the election. ‘’That the election was peaceful all through the federation is more to the attitude of corps members than anything else. They conducted themselves in civilised manners ever willing to attend to any complaints from voters.’’
In the statement, MPD gave reasons for applauding Brigadier General Kazaure: ‘’Gen Kazaure before now seems most dutiful in a way in line with his professional calling. We all passed through NYSC as Nigerian citizens never in the history of the Corps had we had a DG with such passion as his. He faces his duty with unquantifiable determination and focus.
He is hardly the bully type but an amiable DG ever willing to resolve any challenges facing corps members headlong. He neither pretends nor stays aloof amidst challenges without tackling them forthwith and that to us is something to be commended for.
Now that the presidential election has been won by the incumbent President Mohammadu Buhari, we call on the Federal government to continue to give adequate support to the NYSC and Gen Kazaure to achieve more for the nation.
The statement added that It is on record that under the present DG, the NYSC skill acquisition program has attained new level such that discharged corps member do not need to wait for government employment alone but can be self-employed or even become employer of labour.
“It is this level of competence being imparted to the Corps members under the Kazaure’s leadership that has made them very resourceful in assisting Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC to conduct elections without man power challenges.” The statement added
