The former Chairman Inter-party Advisory Council(IPAC) and the Director General National Taskforce to Combat Illegal Importation of Small Arms, Ammunitions, Light Weapons, Chemical Weapons and Pipelines Vandalism (NATFORCE), Chief Osita Okereke has urged Nigerians not to take the European Union Election Observers’ reports on the 2019 general elections serious.
Chief Okereke who gave the advice while interacting with some newsmen in his Abuja Office explained that election observers such as EU did not visit most states but concentrated their operations in FCT Abuja and environs. He therefore wondered how such reports should be taken seriously by the people and government of Nigeria.
While dismissing the reports, he stated; “I am of the opinion that such negative reports that saw nothing good in the whole elections conducted in the country were made to tarnish the country’s image and those of her citizens.”
Chief Okereke who was a onetime presidential Candidate of the African Liberation Party, also said that he monitored the elections accusing some politicians across major political parties of being the architect of major flaws detected by the EU observers.
On the ongoing INEC Server controversy, Chief Okereke said such negative debate between the incumbent and the former INEC boss should not be allowed to destabilize the country adding that what matters most to ordinary Nigerians are basic necessities of life and not the tales from money bag politicians.
IPAC former boss further called on the operatives of the Department of State Security (DSSS) to do their work by arresting all who are hell-bent to cause division and discontentment in the country as well as the immediate arrest of the Prof Jega.
He lamented that Nigerian politicians are bad losers adding that in an election there must be winners and losers. He advised those who lost the last presidential or guber elections to embrace the spirit of sportsmanship, go home and re-strategize for another round of elections that would take place in the next four years.
Okereke also reminded Nigerians that all over the world, there is no place where elections are conducted under perfect conditions, urging people who are calling for mass protest against the government because of perceived elections rigging to have a rethink before Nigeria would be thrown into another circle of confusion making life unbearable to the commoners and ordinary people.
He also alleged that the reports from EU were a calculated attempt to cause division and bigotry among amongst Nigerians.
According to him; “Nigerians are no more kids. We have overgrown all those racism and western domination because we are now a sovereign state and nation after several years of Independent,” he added.
Former IPAC boss maintained that several local election observers have done a wonderful work during and after the last general elections as they all were seen permeating all the nooks and crannies of the country including those territories perceived to have been no go areas by the EU observers.
While querying the criteria for the EU reports, Okereke lamented that, many countries of the world have been conducting elections with and without the presence of EU, alleging that Nigerians never one day heard of their reports from those countries even when there were outright rigging and manipulations.
