The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has disclosed that 14 associations seeking registration as political parties, including the All Democratic Alliance (ADA) have scaled the first hurdle of the process.
The commission disclosed this in a statement on Thursday by its National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, Sam Olumekun, after its regular meeting in Abuja.
According to the statement, INEC received 171 applications from different groups, but only 14 met the initial requirements to proceed to the next stage, while 157 others fell short of the conditions set out in the Constitution, the Electoral Act 2022, and the commission’s guidelines.
INEC also said the names of the 14 pre-qualified associations have been published on its website and other official platforms for public information.
The interim chairmen and secretaries of the associations are expected to attend a briefing at the commission’s headquarters in Abuja on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, where further verification processes will be outlined.
The commission explained that it would physically verify all claims made by the associations in line with its regulations before taking a final decision on their registration.
The pre-qualified associations are the African Transformation Party (ATP), All Democratic Alliance (ADA), Advance Nigeria Congress (ANC), Abundance Social Party (ASP), African Alliance Party (AAP), Citizens Democratic Alliance (CDA), Democratic Leadership Alliance (DLA) and Grassroots Initiative Party (GRIP).
Others are Green Future Party (GFP), Liberation People’s Party (LPP), National Democratic Party (NDP), National Reform Party (NRP), Patriotic Peoples Alliance (PPA) and Peoples Freedom Party (PFP).
