As Nigeria’s President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu lift emergency rule in Rivers State, the National President of Eastern Union (EU), a civil society group that promote the interests of the old Eastern Nigeria region, Hon. Charles C Anike has advised the returning Governor of the State, Simileye Fubara, members of the State House of Assembly and the people of Rivers State to close ranks and work together towards the progress of the oil rich State.
Hon. Anike also stated that the stakeholders in the State have opportunity to correct past mistakes and dismantle the military structure imposed on the State in the past six months.
Speaking in a statement he personally signed, titled, ‘the return of Rivers State to legitimate governance,’ and made available to Journalists on Wednesday, in Abuja, the EU national President noted that though some of the political actors betrayed the people in various ways, they have opportunity to make amends.
The press release reads: “to H.E Simileye Fubara, we advise him to get his acts together and repackage himself. Already desperation had led him to compromise the mandate of the River’s people.
“They may never love him again like before because he actually betrayed their trust. Nevertheless, good works can still restore their confidence.
“We advise him never again start a fight he cannot finish. He must always endeavour to do a due diligence before embarking on any journey or any battle.
“As he assumes office again, he must put the past behind him; he must not for any reason be afraid of the giants, bearing in mind that David killed Goliath, despite all his threats.
“Most times giants are cowards, who are always afraid of defeat. What Fubara need is the support of the River’s people and nothing more.
“External help will never be sustained and will definitely reduce him to a mere puppet governor. Fubara must believe that dry bone can live again.
“The members of the State Assembly has lost their value, having compromised the wellbeing of their respective constituencies, due their quest to please a man.
“History of River State will never be kind to them, but they can still make amends with this little opportunity.
“Anyone that sells his/her kinsmen for political gains will remain a reference for generations.
“We advise the River’s people to continue to embrace peace and rally round their Governor for speedy recovery of the lost time and plundered resources.
“They must undermine the illegal structures created through the military agent of the cabals.
“The good people of River state must believe that this one too shall pass away and very soon too.
“Well as we look forward to end of militarization of the oil rich River State of Nigeria. We kindly advise that since the gladiators cannot consider the destinies of the River State citizens, they should at least fear God who all powers belongs to.
“For about six months now the power mongering Abuja guy men, has used every unorthodox means to silence the voices of the people of River state due to selfish political calculations, towards 2027.
“The Nigerian President has successfully used the whole State to compensate his political ally.
“However, both of them must remember that power is transient and doesn’t domicile with one person, therefore, the 2027 political is most likely to fail also because nothing on earth lasts forever.
“Those misusing and abusing power today should pause a to ask themselves, where’s Abacha?. Where’s Arthur Nzerbe?. Where’s Yahaya Bello?. Where’s Gowon?, alive but inconsequential, the list is endless.”
