A Coalition of Civil Society Groups for Peace, Security, Good Governance, Equity and Justice, in collaboration with Media Practitioners for Development, have commended Engr. Chijioke Okwuokenye, the Acting Managing Director/CEO of Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC), for promptly reconnecting electricity to the FCT Water Board.

In a press statement the coalition released to pressmen in Abuja Sunday, and signed by its leaders, Comrade James Okoronkwo and Johnson Eze the group pointed out that AEDC’s decision to restore power after disconnecting the water board due to over a year of outstanding debt shows their commitment to balancing regulatory compliance with public interest. This move will ensure uninterrupted water supply to FCT residents, supporting public health, hygiene, and overall quality of life. We appreciate AEDC’s efforts to find a solution that prioritizes the community’s needs.

“We urge the FCT Minister, Barr Nyesom Wike, to ensure the FCT Water Board settles its debt to AEDC promptly. This will prevent future disruptions and promote responsible governance. We also call on FCT residents to pay their water bills on time, contributing to the sustainability of water services in the FCT”.

Furthermore, the coalition  encouraged the FCT Water Board to prioritize payment of their utility bills and work towards a more efficient billing and collection system. This will help prevent similar situations in the future and promote a culture of responsible payment for services rendered.
